Back to School -2010

I have a theory about big, exciting times in kids lives, like going back to school.  Summer went so fast, too fast this year, every year seems to go faster.  I am NEVER ready to send them back to school, but this year especially crept up on me.  Anyway, none of the kids were ready to go to school until about August.  Jaxon decided he was ready first, I think he likes his freedom away from home.  (We are a bit easier on them during school because they are so busy with extracurricular activities, homework, etc.).  Then, Josie was ready next - Jainie has been excited for 3 years, but did get a bit nervous.  Josh never really talks about it, but loves being around other kids - boys.  And, Jake, well, Jake is still not ready to go back and every morning is a struggle for all of us.  Back to my theory, I LOVE having my kids around me, LOVE having them home, LOVE having them not around other kids who are so NOT raised the way I raise mine, L0VE not having so much constant drama, etc.  Anyway, a couple weeks before it is time for any big activity, my kids go crazy.  Constantly pushing my buttons, teasing siblings, not obeying, on and on.  Until finally, I am ready for them to go.  I am not sure if this is a natural thing or if Heavenly Father does it just for me, so I won't go absolutely bonkers when they try to grow up.  I really don't like it but I know it is necessary.  And really I guess I am growing up too.  I even let the kids all wear whatever they wanted for the first day.  So, although, I didn't find what any of them wore to be MY favorite outfits, I still allowed it.  Aren't you so proud of me?
This was actually Jaxon's 2nd day.   The middle and high school started 1 day earlier than elementary.  He is a BYU fan and a Yankees fan - 7th grade.  He will wear anything sporty.  He will wear shorts this year, which is a first.  And he even said he will wear polos, which have been off limits for years now.  (So far he still hasn't worn one).  He really likes t-shirts with sports or team names.  He choose high-tops this year for his shoes.  And, people say fashion doesn't cycle.
Josie is in 5th grade and is growing up WAY too quickly!  Josie is very into ballet flats or boots, never been one for tennis shoes.  She also loves skinny jeans now and jeggings.  She is quite the fashionista.
Josh is in 3rd grade now - whoa!  He loves plaids all of the sudden; shirts, shorts, whatever.  He would wear plaid shorts with a plaid shirt if I would let him.  And, the first week of school, I think he wore a different baseball shirt everyday.  I actually bought a different shirt to go with the shorts he is wearing, but he would only wear a baseball shirt for his first day, I decided these really don't look too bad together.  (However, you should see what he is wearing today - eek!)
Ahh Jake.  Because Jaxon and Josh both wanted this shirt, but it wasn't in their size, they convinced Jake to get it.  Then, they convinced him he HAD to wear it the first day.  Stinkin' Yankees - ruin my outfit planning for Jake's first day of 1st grade.  He did choose his own shoes - dark blue vans, however, he has only worn them the first week of school because they are tie shoes and he refuses to learn how to tie them.  He luckily doesn't care too much for fashion and we are all just glad on the days he doesn't go commando.  :)
Jainie went to preschool this year and is also quite a fashionista.  She loves high-heels and luckily wedges are in style so she has quite a few pairs.  She really is a shoe fanatic so this shirt was perfect.  And, she loves skirts.  She is VERY girly.  She is also VERY ready for school and is so excited she is one of the big kids now.

Now, if there were a picture of me and Jared here, he would be smiling and I would be crying.  Rough adjustments, especially for a person who isn't too fond of change.  Cest la vie.

  1. The whole shoe tying thing...hard for Connor. I think he learned last year finally and he was in 3rd grade..pretty pathetic

  2. You let the kids choose their outfits? Not only am I amazed, but very proud! Look at you go... :) They're all so great- I really need to find a teaching job down there so I can be around them. By the way- I especially loved Jakes commentary. When I saw his picture the first thing I thought was "Ahhh.... Jake..." and then I read it on your blog. Perfect!
